Near Space!

  • Jul. 14th, 2009 at 8:42 PM
science bad

I was reading Solder Smoke and I found a post about Near Space Exploration. I know some of you are interested in spaceflight and others are interested in building electronics projects. I like both of the above and have an amateur radio license. So I was wondering if there was enough interest to form a group and send something into near space.

There should be room for anyone who's interested and right now I'm trying to gauge interest. If enough people want to do this I'll arrange an introductory meeting to firm up the details and goals.

I'd love to but there is roughly 0.00001% chance that I'd have time to actually do anything useful.

That's greater than zero. No reason you can't join the fun when you can. One of these days, when I've saved up, I want to pick your brain about scopes as I need one for my bench.

Near Space
You might want to look at my BalloonSat construction articles at the Society of Amateur Scientists (www.sas.org/tcs).

I'm also updating the electronics in my book and selling them as kits. You can see them at nearsys.com/catalog.

Depending on when and where you hold the introductory meeting, I would be interested in attending.

Onwards and Upwards,

Re: Near Space
Everyone who has expressed an interest, other than poor [info]randomdreams is in Seattle. So we'll probably have our meetings somewhere around here. My vote would be in a pub at least for the introduction/planning meetings.

As far as when I'd like to have the first one in a week or two.
