Do you consider yourself vegan? If so, is yeast acceptable?

Your baking friend is curious.

Now I've really drunk the Kool-Ade by purchasing a myTouch. So I've started downloading the developer tools. But what apps should I get to go with it? What's the best app for Twitter? What's a good app for storing passwords? Do you guys have suggetions?

Does anyone have season 1 of Fringe on DVD I can borrow? I'd like to get caught up and the episodes aren't on Hulu anymore.

Answers for Beer!

My savings account towards a new computer has reached my goal so I'm looking at parts for a new computer. I don't have questions about that other than hoping someone with some MS credit can hook me up with Windows 7 when it is released. (Happy Birthday to me!)

What I do have questions about is turning my current PC into a file/backup server. Questions like which of the various server options from Microsoft I should run. So if you have answers I would like to get together over a pint or two. Anyone up for that?

Engine vs Motor

Here's a random question that came up in conversation yesterday. What's the difference between a motor and an engine? Is there one or are they interchangeable words for the same thing?

Comcast HD DVR Outputs?

Thanks to a friend I have an HD TV now. It only has component inputs. According to the less than helpful customer service rep at Comcast I still don't know if their HD DVR boxes have component outputs. The CSR would say they only had HDMI, but didn't understand any question I asked him.

Does anyone have a Comcast HD DVR box? Does it truly only have HDMI output, or is there a component output on there too?

Without music color becomes pallor

music

A thought about playing music has been running through my head for a while. I used to play trumpet and enjoyed it quite a bit. Last night [info]hollyqueen suggested I pick up an instrument and start playing again. The question is which one? The issue with my teeth knocks a trumpet out of the running but a trombone or other bass instrument might work. I've toyed with the idea of playing electric guitar or bass and keyboards. There's always the unusual but possibly highly entertaining accordion or concertina. So many choices.

So here's a question for you. Imagine me up on the stage with the band and knocking down the house during a killer set. What am I playing?

Also, I'll buy a few pints in exchange for knowledge about what I would need for a basic electric guitar or bass setup. Sure, I could buy some starter kit off of Amazon, but I fought against a bad trumpet for years and I would rather not repeat that part of the experience.

And does anyone have an empty 1lb can? I have a few recipes that are baked in one and don't drink the stuff myself. I'll take them off your hands and keep them out of a landfill.

Does anyone have any information about New Roots Organics? I want to get more veggies in my diet and support a local business. It doesn't hurt that they deliver too.

360 RPGs?

  • Mar. 28th, 2009 at 2:37 PM
not a spy

I've just finished Mass Effect and before that Fable: The Lost Chapters. I enjoyed both games and am looking for another to fill the void. I like RPGs but wasn't fond of the FPS elements in Mass Effect. (Ok, I really (really) enjoyed using the sniper rifle.) This makes me concerned about the amount of FPS combat in Fallout 3, but what I have seen of the game looks fun. Fable II is also on my list of possible games.

The question is what games might I be missing? I used to play a lot of RPGs on the PC and PlayStation but I've been out of the loop for a while so I was hoping my friends could point me in the right direction.

I bought a copy of John Robbins' Debugging Applications for Microsoft .NET and Microsoft Windows but it didn't come with the companion CD. I've searched the web for the files but Mr. Robbins seems to not have placed them online. Any chance some Seattle folks have the companion CD I could copy?

Rewards

us

[info]hollyqueen and I have been working long and hard on fixing our finances and getting out of debt. We have too many credit cards and haven’t really been responsible with our money. Well last November that ended and together we’ve made changes to how we live, developed a plan of action and, most importantly, followed through with that plan. I’m excited that we’ve paid off our first card. Not only that but we kept on budget so that we have our fun money. It’s been a long time since the two of us were able to get away together and just relax.

The trick now is to figure out where we want to go. We were thinking of going to Langley because we’ve never been and their Chamber of Commerce says they have a lot of book stores. I’m not set on Langley though. What I would really like to find is a remote place with a few good shops to browse and food to eat. Any recommendations?

Victorian Era Expedition Job Ads?

So I have a particular interest for a project. Can anyone point me in the direction of ads that were published looking for porters, animal handlers, supercargoes and other jobs that might be required for a Victorian era expedition? I have a short story idea for a young man who answers such an ad.

Seattle: Help me vote!

We have an election tomorrow and I haven't gotten my voter card or have any idea where I can go vote. I registered to vote over a month ago and hoped I would hear from the election board by now. Does anyone know who I can call or where I can look to find my polling place and what ID I need to vote in my new district?

Update: [info]loree gave me a link to the King County elections website. According to their website I'm still registered at my old address. So much for filling out the voter registration form at the Bite of Seattle. They're closed now but I guess I'll call in the morning to see if I can pull a miracle out of my butt.

This has to be possible!

I'm switching from Emacs to VIM for a variety of reasons. One thing that I can't seem to figure out how to do is perform a substitution using a regular expression with captures. What I have is:

"Offer_ID","Product_ID","Offer_ID","CodeText"
3000,0,3000,12345
3001,10,3001,67890
3002,42,3002,67890
3003,40,3003,67890

What I want is:

"Offer_ID","Product_ID","CodeText"
3000,0,12345
3001,10,67890
3002,42,67890
3003,40,67890

I think it would be easy using a command like %s/^\(\d+,\)\(\d+,\)\d+,\(\d+\)$/\1\2\3/, but all I get is the error message "Pattern not found." Looking at the VIM help the syntax looks right and I've made sure that magic is set. So I don't know what's going wrong.

What's wrong with my substitution?

Update: Fixed typos in the post that weren't used in VIM.
